What if alien tech giants fought to end our inequality and extremism? The new thriller Giants of Iniquity: a San Francisco Omen takes us there and beyond.

Have a plush job with a giant tech company or a fatly-funded startup? If not, you might sometimes feel left out of the latest tech boom. You might even see firsthand how many big tech companies are displacing folks, changing cultures, and causing economic or social turmoil.

These tech giants — like Google, Apple, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn just to name a few — control our lives in ways we don’t always realize. Many people believe they dominate our lives too much, with little to no responsibility for their actions. But so far, even our governments have not been able to slow their growth and domination.

Turning tech giants into supernatural forces

A new novel, Giants of Iniquity: a San Francisco Omen, explores what happens in an alternate reality when tech giants from another world collide with our current crises of technology, inequality, homelessness, and political extremism.

Set in San Francisco, the novel wastes no time plunging into the paranormal when vortex lights appear over the city’s posh Nob Hill and alien-like, 8-feet-tall “Giants” appear. It’s then that our 30-something protagonists Joel, his wife, Krista, and their friend Nico try to find out where the Giants are from, and what they want.

On the surface at least, these new San Francisco tech Giants seem to have good intentions. They suddenly solve the city’s problems in quick succession: joblessness ends, the homeless problem disappears, and the city becomes clean and spotless. Majestic new buildings rise into the skyline, and the area’s economy is soaring. The alien Giants unite Bay area residents in both wonder, and in anticipation of something greater.

Darker forces brought to light

But these seemingly generous Giants and miraculous outcomes call up a critical question: do the ends justify their means? To find an answer, Giants of Iniquity pits these spiritual forces against each other in a supernatural battle with advanced technology and cultural shifts.

Giants of Iniquity is a compelling, quick, and riveting read — but it’s not all just aliens and Illuminati conspiracies. Joel, Krista, and the other characters also take on current crises like our urban real estate bubbles and exploding economic gaps.

To that end, the book aims to not just entertain, but also leave you with new perspectives on the roles and responsibilities of tech giants or startups and the social costs of new technologies.

The story is the brainchild of Jason Covington, a San Francisco Bay area based tech consultant with expertise in Agile transformation and team / product development. Jason has also taught writing at several colleges and universities for over 25 years.
