One bright side of 2020? More time to try new games, and tons of great mobile games to try. Here are a few of the best Android games so far for 2021 and 2022:

Mobile gaming has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years. If you’re at least 30, you may still reminisce about playing old mobile games like Snake and Tetris on phones that resembled bricks. And now not many years later, even most mid-range smartphones are thin, sport beautiful displays, and are fully capable of playing today’s graphics-heavy games.

Game developers were quick to the mobile party. In recent years, some of the most popular games launched as mobile-only, but still brought in big profits. So now, it’s no surprise that many developers who previously worked only on PC games are now simultaneously releasing mobile versions.

Just for example, huge console hits like PUBG and Epic’s Fortnite are now playable on phones, and then you have better slot games than ever before like Playtech’s Buffalo Blitz game available at casino.com/ca/slots/buffalo-blitz, alongside augmented reality classics like Niantic’s Pokémon GO and popular virtual reality releases like Fibrum’s Zombie Shooter VR. In the world of mobile mega hits, we’ve only just touched the surface.

Though 2020 was tough for so many of us, one bright side is that it offered many gaming fans more time to try new games, and motivated many developers to focus on making even better games. So now that 2021 is here, we have an impressive array of Android games to choose from. Here’s a look at some of the best of them:

Genshin Impact

Already boasting a large, loyal following after drumming up huge interest since its release in 2020, Genshin Impact is a highly entertaining action RPG (role playing game) with gacha mechanics. Many fans of Genshin Impact have rightly compared it to The Legend of Zelda, although not everyone agrees.

One thing Genshin Impact fans can agree on though, is that it is a faultless creation. The graphics and visuals are superb, the controls are easy to grasp, and the open-world aspect of the game makes for an exciting new world you can explore for hours on end.

Legends of Runeterra

Riot’s new fantasy mobile card game Legends of Runeterra (screenshot top of this page) is fairly similar to Blizzard’s Hearthstone, the hit game that’s been particularly popular with World of Warcraft fans. Although Runeterra isn’t in any way based on Hearthstone, it has lots of similar features. You collect heroes and cards, and attempt to build various decks from there. You can also invite friends for a duel, and test your skills against your rivals. Here’s a recent review.

Call of Duty: Mobile

Call of Duty: Mobile is expected to level up even more in 2021 as it continues to wow gamers on mobile. The iconic console game has a normal FPS online PvP mode, alongside a 100-player epic battle royale feature that has turned into a treat on mobile. Call of Duty: Mobile is also free to play, though there are some in-app purchase options as you progress through the game.

Pokemon GO

Although Niantic’s Pokémon GO is now far from new, it’s still one of the biggest and best options for Android. Its mobile augmented reality feature makes the game truly unique, allowing you to catch Pokémon while you’re out anywhere in the real world with your phone or tablet. You can catch all of the Pokémon, battle against your friends, take down gyms, complete little side missions, and help your team rise to the top.
