Shazam has released a new version of its popular music identification and discovery app for Windows Phone 8 users.  The free app lets you “tag” an unlimited number of songs from the home screen, and it identifies a song in seconds.  You can then choose to buy the song — or any other in Shazam’s catalog — via YouTube,  XBox Music or Nokia Music for Lumia owners.

Shazam Windows Phone 8Shazam’s local interactive mapping feature lets you see recent tags by other Shazam users for your current location. This feature can also be set as a tile on the home screen.  The app also lets you find and watch songs from TV shows and ads that interest you, and you can share songs and videos with your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

If you want to know more about a song you’ve tagged, you can see song lyrics and read music reviews, album information, or artist bios.  You can also set cover art or tag charts as your phone’s wallpaper.

You can download Shazam for free from the Windows Phone Store.  There’s also a premium-feature Encore edition for $5.99, but it hasn’t won many recent favorable reviews, so you may want to stick with the free version for now.
