Shipped
in more than 300 million mobile phones worldwide, Red Bend's
vCurrent Mobile client software is the market share leader in
Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updating. With its latest release
of vCurrent Mobile, Red Bend has completely changed the
paradigm of performing FOTA updates by being the first and only
FOTA software to update firmware in the background while consumers
continue to use their phones. |

| Operators
and manufacturers use FOTA to provide mobile consumers with
the latest software improvements and feature enhancements, without
requiring consumers to bring their phones back to a retail store
to have it reflashed. This helps operators reduce customer support
costs and enables manufacturers to avoid software-related product
recalls. |

Red
Bend's vCurrent Mobile is used by the world's leading mobile
phone manufacturers, including LG Electronics, Motorola, NEC,
Sony Ericsson, Sharp, SANYO and Toshiba. The software has
shipped in 160+ handset models.
Red
Bend recently released version 5 of vCurrent Mobile. This
release provides two innovative industry firsts:
|
|
1.
Background Updates - Red Bend's Background Update
feature allows access to the complete functionality
of the handset while the firmware image is being updated,
without taking the device offline. This allows consumers
to decide when to reboot the phone and activate the
new software version. This innovation makes irrelevant
the issue of update time - previously considered a key
factor in the user experience of FOTA. Previously, it
would take 5-15 minutes to perform the FOTA update and
during this time the phone would be unavailable for
use - a key operator concern particularly related to
emergency use of mobile phones.
2.
Revertible Updates - This capability affords new
revenue opportunities for operators by enabling them
to offer new features and applications during a trial
period, and then removing the software from the phone
if the consumer does not subscribe.
