Skifta
(below) is a free Android app from Qualcomm Labs that allows you
to access your favorite music, photos and videos that live either
on the phone, the Internet or on your home computer and stream them
to everyday devices already found in the home including TVs, Sonos
Systems, Windows 7 PCs and PlayStation 3 consoles. Skifta offers
users an easy 1-2-3 approach to streaming digital content with no
syncing or side loading media to the phone.
Skifta
taps into the home network by utilizing UPnP (Universal Plug and
Play) and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standards. UPnP
and DLNA are languages that electronics use to "talk"
to each other over WiFi. Skifta enables the smartphone to become
a part of this conversation and creates a bridge for the user to
access and stream content to and from these devices.
In
addition to streaming the user's media, Skifta also has premium
content channels that live within the application. Channels like:
Revision3 TV, Facebook Photos, Soma FM, Napster and Picasa.
