This
unique solution unifying different media formats within the same
interface also enables cross-content promotion. Operator-defined
alerts of special upcoming shows appear without interrupting current
viewing.
SuperTV was conceived
in October 2007 when Pelephone, Israel's leading mobile operator,
conducted a thorough investigation to understand the user-interface,
capabilities and features that their users really want in a mobile
entertainment service. Pelephone then assembled an international
A-team to create this consumer-defined product called SuperTV.
User interface experts Balora joined in March 2008 to develop
the rich, intuitive and entertaining interface. In May global
telecommunications leader Ericsson joined together with beeweeb
technologies, an innovative Italian software design company known
for its pioneering convergent and mobile solutions.
In
close cooperation over the next eleven months, they demonstrated
exceptional creative teamwork to deliver a mass-market, high quality,
highly reliable, completely scalable and flexible interactive
TV and VOD service that directly reflects what users really want.
Another
important principal driving SuperTV development was the market
desire for a rich entertainment experience for the mass market,
not just the mobile savvy owners of the smartest smart phones.
Therefore despite significant inherent technical obstacles, SuperTV
was developed and optimized from concept inception for both java
and Symbian platforms to service Pelephone's entire 3G subscriber
base from day one.
Publicly
launched in May 2009, SuperTV is now available for all 3G subscribers
to Pelephone, Israel's leading mobile operator with approximately
2.4 million subscribers.
