Carsten was one of the first to successfully deploy a client server synchronisation solution based on the open industry standard SyncML, now known as OMA DS.

 

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica plc, and founder of Synchronica GmbH, is a pioneer of mobile synchronization and email based on open industry standards.

A serial entrepreneur, Brinkschulte has spent his career developing innovative software solutions and bringing them to market through mobile operators, enterprises and service providers the world over. In fact Brinkschulte developed and deployed the very first OMA DS/ SyncML synchronization server in an operator environment. Based on Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standards, this was the first step towards delivering a BlackBerry-like experience to the 1.5 billion SyncML-enabled mobile handsets out in the market today.

Brinkschulte is passionate about bringing business level mobile services such as Push Email, contacts backup and PIM synchronization to the mass market. He is a champion of open mobile industry standards that allow low cost consumer devices to access services formerly reserved for expensive business Smartphones.

Brinkschulte was quick to recognise the crossover of consumer mobiles into business and Synchronica was the first company to synchronize Microsoft Exchange emails with the Apple iPhone, using the native IMAP client on the iPhone. Synchronica signed up 15,000 iPhone owners in the first 30 days after the iPhone launched and Brinkschulte promises that email will be synchronized just as easily with Google Android phones.
As the CEO of a company that lives and breathes open standards, Brinkschulte has worked hard to forge links with the Open Mobile Alliance and the LEMONADE group and led the acquisition of GoodServer, to ensure that Synchronica's products support the widest range of mobile phones on the market, without needing to install anything on the device. In June 2008 Synchronica furthered its support of open industry standards by joining, CalConnect, the consortium that focuses on developing interoperable mobile calendaring and scheduling synchronization between dissimilar hardware and software.

While Synchronica still synchronizes with Smartphones as well, Brinkschulte firmly believes that the largest market for mobile Email lies in the consumer space, particularly in the emerging markets of Africa and India, where PC ownership is low, but consumers do have access to basic mobile phones. As a former CTO, Brinkschulte has ensured that Synchronica's products have been completely tailored to the mass market. With consumer-friendly sign up from the device and over the air client provisioning, Brinkschulte has ensured that Mobile Gateway reduces support costs for operators while boosting service activation by consumers. Under Brinkschulte's leadership, Synchronica could provide the Gateway to mobile email and data backup for 3 billion devices worldwide.
