In
2010, 17.6 million iPad and Android tablets were sold worldwide,
and Gartner currently estimates 63.6 million tablets will be sold
in 2011. By 2015, industry experts predict sales will reach 326.3
million units. These figures don't even include smartphones, with
a staggering 472 million of those expected to ship in 2011 alone.
With this type of volume, how do IT departments manage their growing
and changing fleets of smartphones and tablets? Some organizations
have tens of thousands of these devices.

John
Marshall, AirWatch CEO and co-founder, first started addressing
these issues back in 2005, when he and his team developed the first
commercial release of AirWatch's flagship mobile device management
(MDM) solution. Since then, AirWatch's functionality has expanded
exponentially; and the company now has more than 1,500 global customers
in the distribution, education, field services, financial services,
government, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, telecommunications
and transportation industries. The company's revenue has grown by
more than 50 percent each year, and its employee-base has increased
from approximately 40 at the end of 2008 to more than 300 today,
with offices established in the UK, Australia and India.
Enterprise
mobility is a fast-moving, highly fragmented marketplace, but Marshall
has quickly emerged as a true visionary, with AirWatch consistently
recognized for its leadership and innovation by a multitude of industry
analysts, including Gartner positioning AirWatch in the 'Leaders'
quadrant of its Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management. From
the solution's inception, Marshall has provided the necessary vision
and discipline to the company's development and delivery efforts,
ensuring businesses of all sizes can tackle, manage and minimize
the new and emerging challenges of enterprise mobility. He consistently
strikes the right balance between defining the future vision for
enterprise mobility and delivering the MDM functionality customers
need and want today.
