| In
addition to conventional APs and controllers, Mount Olive needed rugged
WLAN components that could withstand its harsh environmental conditions.
To help reduce annual maintenance costs, the company planned to use
the WLAN to support an upgrade to their management and work order
processes. Underlying all of these immediate requirements, Mt. Olive
wanted to deploy a scalable system that would carry them into the
future.
Only
Siemens HiPath Wireless was able to provide a complete solution
for Mount Olive, with HiPath Wireless APs and Controllers as well
as Scalence W rugged APs. In total, just under 40 wireless APs provided
Mt. Olive with complete 802.11 a/b/g coverage for close to one million
square feet of indoor space and an additional three million square
feet outdoors.
The
HiPath Wireless installation has been used to support applications
across the enterprise including a mobile maintenance work order
system and a wireless monitoring process to aid in the food processing
by wirelessly monitoring pickle brine vats. VoWLAN was also installed,
enabling Mount Olive to facilitate onsite mobile communications
between workers. All three solutions were delivered on a single
WLAN infrastructure, and the resulting advantages realized paid
for the new infrastructure within the first year.
"The
wireless network provides us with the ability to get information
into the hands of the right people at the right time and make this
company as profitable as it can be," says Dan Bowen, who serves
as vice president of finance for the company and also oversees the
firm's technology initiatives. "I think we have a technological
advantage over our competitors, and wireless has helped us achieve
that."
