Aquila has a team of 200 Field Service Technicians who are responsible for performing work orders on Aquila equipment and facilities at remote locations. Prior to implementing MobileFrame's solution, each Field Service Technician was required to complete several different forms by hand for each work order resulting in many hours spent completing paperwork.

In addition, at the end of each week, the Technician was required to complete a comprehensive Activity Report detailing all of the work accomplished that week. This single activity resulted in a half day lost to paperwork. Not only was this manual data entry done by the Service Technicians, but Aquila's office staff was required to manually enter this data into the company's backend work order management systems.

MobileFrame Solution

When Aquila deployed mobile applications developed on the MobileFrame software platform to automate their data collection process, they realized an immediate return on their investment. Those benefits included:

  • Manual data entry on the Technician's daily forms and weekly Activity Reports was eliminated.
  • Eliminating redundant paper forms increased productivity.
  • Manual data entry by the office staff and the associated data transcription errors have been eliminated.
  • Improved accuracy gives Aquila management complete visibility into the status of all work orders.

Aquila looked at many other solutions but none were platforms capable of capturing the wide range of rich data types possible with MobileFrame's software [e.g. photographs, bar code scans, sketches, voice notes and signatures]. Moreover, all of the other solutions surveyed were hard-coded solutions that required the original software vendor to the make changes to the applications whereas MobileFrame was readily configurable by Aquila's staff without custom coding. The flexibility of MobileFrame's platform permits Aquila to quickly make changes to their applications themselves as business conditions change via a user friendly point and click Graphical User Interface. MobileFrame's Smart Architecture handles all software programming complexities in the background and permits novice computer users with no IT background to quickly create and deploy sophisticated mobile applications. This feature by itself significantly reduces the total cost of ownership of MobileFrame's software platform.

MobileFrame's Business Suite, the only fully self-contained no-code Configurable Mobile Application platform solution that delivers full functionality out-of-the-box, with no custom programming or coding, no third party mobile gateways, synchronization engines or SDK's required. MobileFrame's software has been configured to automate work order tasks as well as provide real-time integration of field data into Aquila's backend work order management system.

The Aquila application developed by MobileFrame is integrated into the Archibus FM Enterprise modules for Building Operations (work orders, craft persons, etc.) and Space Management (employee housing, site, building, floor, room inspection etc.). MobileFrame's solution allowed Aquila to automate all of their Work Order Management System on a single mobility platform.

With integrated intelligent networking, prioritized synchronization, remote software updates, remote device configuration and management, all built-in to one software platform, MobileFrame significantly streamlined mobile application deployment, and administration. Data collected by the Service Technicians in the field is stored on an Intermec CN2B handheld device and automatically synchronized to Aquila's central office when wireless or wired access becomes available. MobileFrame's software is deployed on any .NET handheld computing devices, including Pocket PC PDA's, Tablet PC's and Laptops.
