SNCF has deployed a mobile solution that allows SNCF passengers in Paris and the greater Ile de France region to access real-time train schedules using any mobile device. The Infogare project, which was developed and deployed in less than four months, provides information on arrival and departures, train platforms and travel interruptions for 171 regional railway stations. Infogare is SNCF's first official WAP and I-mode service.

SNCF had already operated a highly successful online travel information portal, which provides rail users with a host of travel information via a PC. Recognizing that PC-based information offered limited benefits to passengers on the move, SNCF sought to enhance their passengers' travel experience by making real-time travel information accessible from any mobile device.

MobileAware's Mobile Interaction Server (MIS) was selected by SNCF to extend their existing BEA web applications. MIS seamlessly extends enterprise applications, portals and web services allowing them to be accessed by any mobile device at any time.

The Infogare solution consists of a BEA WebLogic Server on which mobilised web applications interact with back-end systems to retrieve and deliver live information to mobile devices. Infogare mobile content is created using the same developer tools that are used for creating web content, with MobileAware technology providing the mobility extensions.

Accessing the Infogare service is as easy as entering a single URL - http://infogare.transilien.com - into a mobile phone. Schedule and platform information, as well as information on the next six trains arriving or departing from that station are then presented to commuters.
