How WEX Health was born

WEX Health (formerly Evolution1 – a WEX Company) was formed in 2011 through the merger of two industry leaders: Evolution Benefits, a pioneer in the healthcare debit card industry founded in 2001 — and Lighthouse1, a complete HSA, FSA, and HRA solution in a single software as a service [SaaS] platform provider founded in 2004. Both notable companies in their own right, this combination produced a powerful suite of offerings and a seasoned leadership team who average more than 20 years in employee benefits and healthcare technology businesses.

Evolution1 was acquired by WEX, Inc. in July 2014 for $532.5 million in cash and was known as Evolution1 – a WEX Company. In April 2016, the company changed its name to WEX Health (wexhealthinc.com).
