Consumer mobile software roundup: Dec. 2009 - Jan. 2010

iPhone / iPod touch (continued from PAGE 1)

Good.iWare has updated its GoodReader PDF and TXT file viewer. The new version adds a reflow feature that can extract just the text from a PDF page and display the it as a simple TXT file. Unlike other apps with PDF Reflow, GoodReader doesn't require pre-converting PDFs prior to syncing. The new version also adds the ability to zip / unzip files and provides access to MobileMe iDisk, box.net, MyDisk.se, and other file-storage servers. GoodReader also offers word-wrapping, text formatting, text searching, active hyperlinks, and a variable speed auto-scroll feature for hands-off reading. GoodReader is regularly priced at $4.99 in the iTunes App Store icon, but is available for a limited time for 99 cents.

Pageonce has released iPhone and iPod touch versions of TripTracker and TripTracker Pro. It works like this: enter your account information for airlines and hotels just once, and TripTracker automatically imports future travel itineraries, organizes travel information, and helps you along during your trip, such as providing destination weather, live flights maps, or a map to a hotel. TripTracker also notifies you when frequent travel rewards are granted. TripTracker is free and TripTracker Pro is 99 cents, available in the iTunes App Store icon.

PhatWare has launched an iPhone / iPod touch version of its PhatNotes note taking and syncing app. Features include handwriting recognition input and keyboard entry, shorthand, customizable auto-corrector and user dictionary, spell checker, user reminders and hyperlinks between notes, and text search and filtering. The app can manage thousands of notes stored in multiple folders and grouped by specified attributes, and sync notes with PhatNotes Desktop software, sold separately. PhatNotes is $9.99 in the iTunes App Store icon.
