Development
Cascada
Mobile has officially launched its Breeze J2ME mobile
application development platform, which the company says can
be used by anyone with knowledge of even the most basic Web
programming. Breeze takes code written in HTML, JavaScript and
CSS, and automatically converts it into Java code, so that Breeze
created applications can run on hundreds of different mobile
phones without device-specific builds. Breeze tests mobile applications
for hundreds of different handsets with a single run on the
Breeze Simulator, according to Cascadia. Developers receive
a simple line of code they can put on their websites, blogs
or social network pages allowing people to download the application
merely by entering their mobile number. Developers can also
opt to add their applications to breezeapps.com, Cascada's free
application portal.

Cascada
added new features to Breeze for its commercial release,
including support for location based services and support
for touchscreen devices. Cascada also doubled the number
of supported devices for Breeze since the start of the beta,
and can now automatically build, port and distribute applications
for hundreds of different handset makes and models. For
more information, see cascadamobile.com.

MobiForms
has released an advanced edition of its MobiForms developer
tool. MobiForms Advanced includes the MobiForms Developer
and the new MobiForms Sync Server (MSS), which aims to offer
a true offline wireless store and forward capability with online
synchronisation, replication and offline data buffering. MSS
doesn't need to be hosted by a third party and doesn't incur
any monthly service charges, other than phone network data usage.
The MSS provides a mechanism to create a seed mobile database
containing a duplicate subset of tables from a centrally served
database application. The tables are stored in the embedded
HSQLDB database engine included with MobiForms. The mobile database
is subsequentally indentifed by the MobiForms Developer for
the creation of a mobile application and deployment via the
MobiForms Delpoyment Wizard to the mobile devices.
Where
network routing is enabled, the MSS will replicate data from
any central database server running Oracle Server, Oracle Lite,
Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Sybase SQL Anywhere
Server, IBM DB2 Server, SQLite and Sun MySQL, over any wireless
network, to any device running a MobiForms client. For more
details, see mobiforms.com.

Odyssey
Software
has announced new Athena Windows Mobile device management extensions
for its Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007,
as well as the availability of evaluation kits for prospective
customers. The new Windows Mobile device management extensions
-- implemented as Athena Feature Packs -- include live, remote
access to detailed information about the status of a device's
integrated phone, summary statistics about phone and messaging
utilization, information about the phone's current cell tower
association, and enhanced wireless wide area network (WWAN)
reporting.
Odyssey's
new Laptop Evaluation Kit provides a self-contained environment
that includes all of the necessary hardware and software components
required to enable prospective customers to evaluate Athena
for Configuration Manager 2007. Finally, the new Virtualized
Evaluation Kit utilizes the Microsoft Virtual Hard Disk (VHD)
Test Drive Program to deliver a virtual image of Configuration
Manager 2007
preconfigured with Athena, enabling prospective customers to
evaluate Athena in their own environment and with their own
mobile devices. For details, see odysseysoftware.com, or visit

to version 6.2. AirWave version 6.2 adds new security and
monitoring features, including monitoring support for Cisco
871 routers. AirWave's rogue access point detection and
workflow feature now offers additional levels of rogue classification.
The software summarizes any intrusions detected by the wireless
intrusion protection system, as well as any detected rogue
wireless access points. AirWave also offers SSID-based statistics
collection and report filtering for tracking the migration
of devices away from WEP to Payment Card Industry (PCI)
compliant security methods. The new version adds a PCI Data
