Absolute Software has released Computrace Mobile, a Windows Mobile version of its Computrace PC management software for theft recovery and data protection. IT administrators install Computrace Mobile on supported handhelds, and the software is set to 'call in' to the Customer Center on a regular basis with the latest information on the device settings, hardware and software configurations. If a device is lost or stolen, the IT administrator can send instructions to the device to delete sensitive files or data. Computrace Mobile supports all Windows Mobile 5 and 6 handhelds. Emansio announced the release of its Emansio Push Mail software, which provides a direct connection between the user's mobile device and their company's existing email server, without the need for any additional server infrastructure. Emansio can push email from AOL, GoogleMail, Yahoo, and other mainstream email providers and private email services. For more details or for a fully functional trial version, see emansio.com.

ESRI has released ArcPad 7.1.1 and ArcPad Application Builder 7.1.1, the latest versions of ESRI's mobile GIS software for field mapping and data collection. Version 7.1.1 adds a new object property called Satellites, as well as a StreetMap Desktop Data Extractor utility that allows users to extract data from the StreetMap Premium Tele Atlas North American dataset that was first included with ArcPad 7.1. The ArcPad Application Builder 7.1.1 update will be shipped automatically to customers who are current on maintenance at no additional cost. Users who have already purchased ArcPad 7.1 are eligible to download a free upgrade to ArcPad 7.1.1. For more information, see esri.com.

MobiForms has updated its drag-and-drop mobile development tool of the same name to version 4.05. MobiForms now includes support for wireless mobile access to MySQL databases, including Oracle, Sybase, IBM DB2, SQLite, HSQLDB and MySQL. Or, for offline local storage, MobiForms runs with a range of mobile databases. The latest version also includes a free copy of the open-source HSQLDB database for server, standalone or mobile database applications, complementing the MobiForms Developer tool and the Mobiforms runtime interpreter. Other new features include timers, SMTP email and commands that dynamically change object attributes at runtime like font colors and sizes. Odyssey Software announced its Athena Add-In for Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008. The Athena Add-In aims to complement the features of Mobile Device Manager console by adding over-the-air remote control, a variety of interactive support tools, automated job scheduling, and enhanced device asset information including detailed wireless network and phone status. The Athena Add-In software also provides extended networking, wireless and phone information, and remote control capabilities optimized for wide area wireless networks. Replify has announced general availability of its Reptor software-based WAN optimization application. Server-side, Reptor sits on the customer's preferred virtual appliance -- such as VMWare or Microsoft Hyper-V -- and can be configured for the corporate data centre or branch office. A Reptor client-side application is installed on users’ PCs and mobile devices. The network administrator gets a detailed picture of overall application performance improvement through our Reptor Enterprise Manager. SYWARE has released Visual CE 11, the latest version of its Windows Mobile database development tool. The newest version of Visual CE can now read and generate XML, allowing Visual CE to easily exchange data with other databases, document managers, desktop publishers, and programmers. Another major new feature is the addition of forms launching via SMS. In addition to being able to send SMS (text) messages, Visual CE forms can now be launched by an incoming SMS message. This "push" technology allows allows managers, administrators, as well as other users to not only immediately notify the Visual CE user of important events, but to also initiate timely actions in response to them. Visage Mobile announced a version of its MobilityCentral devices management software, as well as a separate verison just for BlackBerry, which aims to be a complementary offering to RIM's BlackBerry Enterprise Server. MobilityCentral is a completely hosted applcation that requires no enterprise software license or implementation; users pay a monthly subscription service based on the number of mobile workers under management. The software integrates with the major carriers and provides electronic invoice processing on behalf of its customers.
