BlackBerry

TrafficGauge has released a BlackBerry version of its traffic alerts application of the same name. The software currently provides near 'real-time' traffic data for Seattle, LA/Orange County, the San Francisco Bay Area, Singapore, and Chicago. Information is displayed on a fixed freeway grid map, and is frequently updated. TrafficGauge is available at trafficgauge.com.

WebMessenger announced free downloads of their Mobile IM clients as well as free IM service for users of BlackBerry, MS Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Palm PDAs and smartphones. The free IM service provides single client access to AIM, Google, MSN, Skype, and Yahoo. The downloads are available at webmessenger.com. WebMessenger also offers a BlackBerry messaging and device manager called Message Alerts, which is available for $22.49 at Handango. Message Alerts has a Handango user rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

Palm OS

iambic has released ToolboxToGo, a new PIM manager that lets users make changes to their tasks, meetings, or contacts. Users can adjust contacts' capitalization, align phone number formatting, delete data based on creation date, apply numerous changes to any of the contact, meeting and task related fields, and remove tags from the item's note. Version 1.0 is available for $9.95 at Handango.

Megasoft2000 has released v6.45 of its MegaLauncher application manager for any device running Palm OS 5 or above. Among the program's many features are a Today view with plugin support, a network and ftp manager, built-in file browser and utilities, multi-window mode, a theme manager, zip support and whole range of customization options. The latest update features full support for the GSM Centro. MegaLauncher v6.45 (Apache) includes a free trial period and costs $17.95 at Handango. It has a Handango user rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Shape Services has updated their instant messaging software, IM+ All-in-One Mobile Messenger, which combines AOL IM, Yahoo, Google Talk, MSN Live/Messenger, ICQ and Jabber. Key features include SSL support, full presence status, groups, detailed contact info, sound and vibration notifications, 5-way support and background use with other apps. IM+ All-in-One Mobile Messenger v3.2 costs $26.95 at Handango, and has a Handango user rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Toysoft has announced PictureID, a new full screen photo caller ID app for Palm OS phones. Users can assign any JPG or GIF image as a caller ID from internal memory or from an external SD Card. When a recognized call comes in, PictureID will display the caller's image in full color with optional custom color fonts. The software also supports groups of callers and third party ringtone managers, and includes a area code and city database to display incoming call locations. PictureID v1.0 for Palm OS is $9.95 at Handango.

Symbian

JoikuSoft has released JoikuSpot, an S60 3rd Edition file sharing app that lets users share their 3G internet connection wirelessly over WLAN with any compatible WLAN device such as laptop or other smartphone. JoikuSoft says that multiple devices can connect to JoikuSpot at the same time, with JoikuSpot acting as an Internet gateway. The software can be downloaded for free at Handango.

Symbian Guru released a new S60 currency converter called Currencies, which uses real time exchange rates from the European Central Bank, or the user's own currencies rates set manually. Currencies sells for $6.29 at Handango.

SymbianOn has released Firewall&Guard, a UIQ security app that can automatically block certain messages, including spam. The program can automatically hide and password protect messages sent by specified contacts, and messages sent by a contact or number included on a blacklist can be automatically deleted. Telexy Networks has also announced a wireless file sharing app, but for UIQ 3 phones. SymbSMB lets users share, browse, transfer, organize, rename, or copy any files and folders between their phone and computer. For more details, see telexy.com.

Windows Mobile

Electric Pocket has released FindMe, a location-tagging app for Windows Mobile and BlackBerry that lets users share current or commonly visited locations without needing GPS, and post those locations on their Facebook profiles. For privacy, FindMe doesn't broadcast actual location information, only the names of locations that the user has tagged. The first release works with all GSM Windows Mobile phones and all CDMA and GSM BlackBerry devices with trackballs. FindMe is available from electricpocket.com.
