Kaspersky
Lab has updated its security software for smartphones
running Symbian and Windows Mobile. Key new functions available
in Kaspersky Mobile Security 7.0 allow users to completely
block a lost device or to remotely delete the data on it. If
a phone is stolen, the SIM-Watch function prevents the thief
from accessing data on the phone without the original SIM card;
as soon as the original SIM card is replaced, a message notifies
its owner of the new telephone number. The software also scans
incoming files and network connections in real-time, performing
antivirus scans of the whole device on demand or on schedule.
It also blocks messages from unwanted or incorrect numbers,
as well as SMS messages containing words or phrases entered
by the user into a blacklist. Regular updates of antivirus databases
are performed automatically at intervals set by the user and
are available via WAP/HTTP (GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, etc.) or via
a PC during synchronization.
Kaspersky
Mobile Security 7.0 works with smartphones running Windows Mobile
5.0, 6.0 or Symbian version 9.x Series 60 3rd. For more information,

Sybase iAnywhere launched iAnywhere Mobile Office,
a new component of the company's Information Anywhere software
suite. Mobile Office lets road warriors tap into their business
applications through Sybase's OneBridge email client, and works
similarly to a Microsoft Outlook calendar invitation. The email
will include specially formatted XML to tell the Sybase client
what options to present, and then will communicate those decisions
back to a central server that will push those decisions to the
business application. The
new iAnywhere Mobile Office component of the Information Anywhere
Suite will be available in Q2 2008 for Windows Mobile and Symbian
devices.
Sybase also announced the addition of on-demand Windows Mobile
data decryption in Afaria, the security compoent of its
Information Anywhere suite. The new functionality aims to reduce
log-in times traditionally burdened by a slow decryption of
everything that might be used. With the Afaria security engine
now sitting closer to the OS stack, data is decrypted as it
is called, and only the particular parts of a file that are
called are decrypted. The updated Afaria will be available in
March 2008 for Windows Mobile 5 & 6, Pocket PC/Professional
and Smartphone/standard, with additional platforms to follow.

Synchronica has announced version 3.5 of its mobile
email middleware Mobile Gateway. The new version now incorporates
an email-to-SMS gateway that adds to the mobile email and synchronization
standards already supported (OMA DS (SyncML), OMA EMN, and IMAP
Idle). Mobile Gateway combines the email-to-SMS gateway for
basic phones such as the Nokia 1110 with an IMAP gateway delivering
push email to the built-in email clients on feature phones such
as the Sony Ericsson W880 and a SyncML gateway for synchronization
of calendar and contact data with more than 1.5 billion SyncML-enabled
handsets such as the Nokia NSeries.
According to Syncrhonica, Mobile Gateway 3.5 features a zero
footprint architecture that supports all of the major back-end
systems used for consumer and business mailbox services without
requiring additional software to be installed on the device
or behind the firewall. To facilitate service activation and
boost consumer adoption rates, Synchronica has also added WAP
signup to Mobile Gateway 3.5, enabling users to subscribe to
the service directly from their device. For
