Software
startup Vumber launched its anonymous "disposable"
phone number service of the same name. Subscribers can choose
Vumber numbers in any area code, and can use their "Vumber"
in place of a real phone number, such for online dating, social
networking, message boards, online applications, email lists,
online purchases, etc. Small business subscribers, for example,
can also set up multiple numbers in different area codes to provide
local numbers for customers or to increase the perceived size
of their business. Every Vumber has a customizable voice mailbox.
Messages can be retrieved from the system just like any other
voicemail system, and incoming calls never reach a user's regular
voicemail. Vumber requires no PCs or special phones. For more
details, see vumber.com.
