Symantec has launched Norton Smartphone Security, a consumer mobile security application for both Windows Mobile and Symbian. Norton Smartphone Security features anti-virus technology as well as a firewall and anti-spam for short message service. For more information, see symantec.com.

Symbian Guru has released Phone Guardian v2.0, a security app that aims to protect Series 60 v3 phones from theft and unauthorized access. If the phone is lost or stolen, Phone Guardian can remotely secure and auto lock it by sending a lock SMS. Once locked, the thief cannot use the phone or uninstall the Phone Guardian software. The phone can only be unlocked by sending an unlock SMS with a password. Phone Guardian v 2.0 is US $10.95, and a free trial is available. Symbian Guru also released a new app called Phone Wallet, which secures confidential information using data encryption algorithms and password protection. The software comes with preinstalled folders and data types, which users can add, delete or re-organize as they like. According to Symbian Guru, data is secure even after a disk dump of the phone. PhatNotes 5.0 supports mobile devices powered by Windows Mobile 2003 software or later and Outlook 2000 or later running on Windows 2000 or later. Vito Technology has released ZoomBoard, which allows users of touchscreen enabled Windows Mobile smartphones to type with their fingers more quickly and accurately.
