Consumer mobile software news roundup: October 2007

- Continued from Page 1

--- Windows Mobile only ---

Namco Networks has added a new title to its mobile games lineup: Popeye. Like the classic ‘80s arcade version, Namco's Popeye lets players help him win back his sweetie Olive Oyl, by collecting Olive's love tokens while overcoming the antics of Popeye's rival, Bluto. The software is only available from namconetworks.com.

PhatWare (phatware.com) has released version 3.0 of its Pocket dbExplorer database management utility for Windows-based mobile devices. Pocket dbExplorer allows users to manage systems and application databases that contain device information such as system settings, contacts and appointment lists, emails, etc. Users can transfer between devices via infrared, and export databases. Pocket dbExplorer now supports CEDB and EDB database formats.

Pocket dbExplorer also allows backup and restoring of databases as well as system registry settings to a file, which can be stored on a flash memory card or copied onto a desktop. Handango offers Pocket PC and Smartphone versions of Pocket dbExplorer 3.0 for US $17.95, with a free 30-day trial available.

Sprite Mobile has updated its Windows Mobile Sprite Backup backup and recovery software, to v6.1. Sprite Mobile allows all device data to be backed up to a storage device, one or more desktop PCs, or over the air. Sprite Backup costs about $30, or $20 in a "Lite Edition" that lacks the FTP backup functionality. It supports Windows Mobile 2003, 5, and 6. Sprite Mobile is only available from spritesoftware.com.
