Enterprise mobile software news roundup: Aug. - Sept. 2007

Compiled Oct. 12, 2007 by Gary Thayer, MobileVillage Editor

AirClic has announced the integration of its AirClic MP platform with Thornberry's NDoc point of care software. The integrated solution pushes daily schedules and corresponding patient care plans created by nurse case managers in NDoc to AirClic MP-enabled cell phones used by home health aides. In addition, aides in the field will update the care plan on the phone following various prompts to help track and confirm care activities.

This data is then sent back to NDoc and patient information is updated online in real-time, eliminating paper visit notes and reducing administration time. The AirClic-enabled phones also come with built-in GPS capabilities and an optional Motorola AC25 integrated bar code scanner. The GPS functionality will prompt for start time/end time, mileage and expense data for reimbursement, while the bar code scanner allows for paperless data entry and the ability to track inventory supplies. For more information see thornberryltd.com, airclic.com, or AirClic's summary page on MobileVillage.

Greenlight Wireless announced its patent-pending technology that reformats the presentation of text-based ads created for the desktop to conform to Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) standards, which allows for a maximum of two lines of 16 characters each. The dynamically adapted ad text retains its context and "clickability" and the conversion process takes place real-time at sub-second speeds. Greenlight says its display-reformatting system can be used to transform ad text for many applications, such as language translation and other localization and network-related criteria. The new ad reformatting technology is available through Greenlight's Advertizer service, which is a converged ad network that provides both mobile and desktop ads through a single ad feed. For details, see greenlightwireless.com or Greenlight's summary page on MobileVillage.

TeleType has released a GPS navigation SDK and ESRI converter tools for implementing navigation applications on Windows CE portable GPS systems, laptops and Windows XP based devices. The company also offers map conversion tools and utilities for developers wishing to implement their own maps on portable navigation devices. The tools allow the popular ESRI shape file formatted maps to be converted to the TeleType Map (TTM) format. For details, see teletype.com.

ThinkGeo released version 2.0 of its Map Suite Pocket PC Edition, a GIS mapping control for the .NET Compact Framework that enables .NET developers to build full-featured mapping presentations for portable devices. Built on the latest .NET Compact Framework 2.0, Map Suite Pocket PC enables non-GIS developers to author mapping applications for portable computing devices such as Pocket PCs and PDAs. Some of the features included with the suite are: shapefile (.shp) data support, MrSID raster imagery support, spatial and distance querying, custom rendering, direct map drawing, comprehensive library of geographic and decimal degree functions, and a large set of sample applications in the C# and VB.NET languages. For details, see thinkgeo.com.

Tri-Global Technologies has updated its Tri-Global MobileStaker mobile field application for electric utility crews designing new service drops or power line installations. MobileStaker allows the field user to select from a standard list of the utility's construction assemblies while designing the job. This data can be wirelessly uploaded from the mobile device into the Partner Field Design tool, which generates staking sheets, cost estimates, and other job reports. The field survey can then be imported into any industry-standard accounting system or GIS package. Improvements in the new 3.0 version of Tri-Global MobileStaker include an improved user interface with map display supporting ESRI Shapefiles, and improved data transfer between the field and office. For more information, see www.triglobal.net.

US Biomedical Information Systems (USBMIS) has released ECG Notes, a professional healthcare reference for Palm and Pocket PC handhelds. Based on F.A. USBMIS says it plans to release other top medical references from the F.A. Davis Company over the coming months. The reference is available for download at usbmis.com. Visto announced version 5.7 of its Visto Mobile email software. Version 5.7 allows self provisioning with pre-installed clients, enabling mobile email users to set up service from their device in a matter of seconds. Also new is the addition of an iPortal, or web-based repository of contacts and calendar entries that can be accessed from anywhere and allows users to transfer Microsoft and Outlook Express contacts and calendar items from one device to another or access this information on two devices concurrently. Visto Mobile 5.7 also features expanded handset support and is now compatible with more than 130 devices. The software will be available from mobile operators in Q4 2007.
