-- Following are recent consumer mobile software releases:
BlackBerry
S4BB Ltd.
has released EmergencyWipe for BlackBerry, which will
quickly remove data that the BlackBerry's owner doesn't want other
people to find, including Contact, Tasks/To dos and Calendar events.
Before removing the data, EmergencyWipe asks for a double confirmation.
The software supports all BlackBerry models OS 4.1 and higher.
Users can wipe all the data covered, or only one group. Users
can also regularly back up data and then restore it when connecting
to their PC. EmergencyWipe is available for $27 on
Handango.
Palm
Iambic
released version 12 of its Agendus for Palm OS, its personal
information manager (PIM) optimized for Treo smartphones.
Version 12 adds new journaling capabilities, a project manager,
a Photo Dialer mode that associates a contact's picture with its
address information for one-tap dialing, and Power Search 411,
which simplifies reverse phone number lookup. Iambic has also
added the ability to connect files to activities, associating
multiple contacts to task, stand alone alarms and new over-the-air
capabilities to provide stock quotes to the Today view. Agendus
for Palm OS Professional Edition v12 is available with a free
trial for US $36 on
Handango. A Premiere
version is also available, which costs $53 on Handango, and
a Standard
version is available as well for $27.
Paragon
has released Handy Weather v1.01 for Palm OS devices.
Two features that set Handy Weather apart is its support for up
to 30 locations, and its three different 5-day forecast views
that can be posted to the Treo's keyguard screen. It also includes
animated icons, a multilingual interface and manual and automatic
updating. Handy Weather is compatible with Treo 650, 680, 700p
and 755p. The software is available for $13.45 on
Handango, is offers a 14-day free trial.
Wolflane
Software released Krome, a new email application
for Palm OS Treos. Krome has custom small font support which
allows users to view more text on the screen at one time. It supports
POP3 and IMAP email accounts, and can store messages on external
memory cards. Krome also allows users to read and create email
while new emails are being downloaded in the background. Krome
v1.0 sells for US $16.95 and includes a 30-day free trial; for
details see wolflanesoftware.com. Wolflane also offers an "SMS
Counter" app that tracks the SMS messages a Treo user send
ands receives. SMS Counter can be found on
Handango for $8.95.
Symbian
Epocware
has released Handy Profiles, its profile and calling
manager for Symbian S60 3rd Edition smartphones. Handy
Profiles automatically switches smartphone profiles. When the
user sets the location rule, the software uses GSM cells to activate
the necessary profile, when user is at specific location. The
time interval rule enables to activate profile for the set time,
even for several days (e.g. different profiles for workdays or
weekends.) The calendar entry rule lets the user add the event
to the phone's calendar, and activates the profile at that time.
Handy Profiles is available for $13.45 on
Handango.
Windows
Mobile
Voice
on the Go Inc. has released version 2.0 of its Voice on
the Go mobile PIM organizer. The software allows subscribers
to use their voice to gain hands-free and eyes-free access to
their email, calendars, and contacts, from any cell phone, Pocket
PC, or other PDA, has released the latest version of its Voice
on the Go software. The software is available for $5.39 on
Handango.
iGuidance,
the navigation software for Windows Mobile 2003 or later
(not including SmartPhone edition) has been updated to version
4. The newest release offers larger buttons and a menu enhanced
for touch screens. The software is compatible with displays from
240 x 240 to 640 x 480 VGA. The improved 3D display and map drawing
aims to make map viewing simpler. Version 4 also includes the
latest digital North America maps from Navteq, including Puerto
Rico and US Virgin Islands, text to speech (voice) capability,
and extended POI listings (6 million). The software retails for
about US $100 at semsons.com.
Smith
Micro Software has released Stuffit Wireless Windows Mobile
Edition, an edition of its PC based compression software that
supports Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0. The software enables both
creation and expansion of both Zip and Stuffit archives. Smith
Micro claims its Stuffit format can compress file types, such
as JPEG images, that Zip is unable to compress, and can compress
files by up to 30 percent without compromising image quality,
according to the company. The software can compress multiple images
into a single archive, from which users can browse images without
