Portable storage company PODS mobilizes its field workers
March 13,
2006 -- (MobileVillage) -- MobileFrame today announced that its
Business Suite software has been selected by portable storage
container company PODS (pods.com) to automate their paper-based
work order forms and manual processes previously used by their
field technicians in the U.S.
MobileFrame's
Smart Architecture handles all software programming in the background
and permits novice computer users with no IT background to instantly
create and deploy sophisticated mobile applications via a user-friendly
point and click desktop, according to the company.
Business
Transactions Technologies (bTrans), in Clearwater, Florida is
providing wireless integration services and program management
for this project and is delivering the barcode scanning system
integration for Symbol handheld mobile computers.
PODS can
now send an electronic version of a Work Order or Sales Request
directly to a technician in the field. As the technician completes
the Work Order, barcode scans of the delivered POD container are
automatically captured and embedded in the workflow. The technician
can also annotate on sketch templates, capture photographs and
record voice notes of any damaged areas, capture the customers'
electronic signature and print a signed copy of the Delivery Receipt.
When the
technician transmits the completed Work Order back to the office
invoices can be generated the same day the container is delivered.
The delivered PODS containers are automatically removed from inventory
and logged so the PODS inventory and location is always up to
date.
"This
software package has increased the productivity of our national
field service operations dramatically," according to Pete
Warhurst, CEO of PODS. "Our Service and Operations Departments
now communicate more efficiently, so our technicians always have
the right delivery and pickup information."
MobileFrame's
Business Suite can be used out-of-the-box, in that it requries
no custom programming, no third party mobile gateways, synchronization
engines or SDK's. Data collected in the field is stored on a handheld
device and automatically synchronized to the central office when
wireless or wired access becomes available. The MobileFrame software
operates on any .NET enabled handheld device, including Pocket
PC handhelds, Tablet PCs or laptops.
