Enterprise mobile software roundup: Feb. 10 - 24, 2006

2006 -- (MobileVillage) -- Here is roundup of noteworthy new or
updated mobile business software, which this week includes lots
of new mobile security products.
Good Technology
has added security software called Good Mobile Defense,
for handhelds running Windows Mobile and Smartphone, Palm OS,
and Symbian. The software suite includes a desktop policy manager
and client software. Features include the ability to manage passwords
and password attempts; and the abilty to set and manage approved
application "white lists" and application launch control,
as well as control the encryption of native handheld memory, storage
cards, and specific applications using AES 256.
Another feature
in Good Mobile Defense is Handheld Feature Control, which lets
administrators disable data transfer ports such as Bluetooth,
WiFi or HotSync, and lock down handheld features such as cameras,
microphones and speakers. Finally, adminstrators can erase data
after excessive failed password and authentication attempts, as
well as remote wipe of all handheld applications, including external
media storage cards.
Good Mobile
Defense is available as a standalone product and as an extension
to GoodLink and GoodAccess for Palm OS. For more information,

Panda
Software
released a beta version of Panda MobileSecurity, its security
software for Symbian Series 60 smartphones. This beta protects
against viruses, Trojans and worms via a system of scanning the
internal memory, memory cards or the entire phone system. According
to Panda, the final version of the product will include automatic
updates and a support service, including SOS Virus, where suspicious
files can be sent for analysis. The application can be customized
through a range of protection settings, and runs in parallel and
without interference with the normal operation of the phone. The

Newbury
Networks and Senforce Technologies have integrated
Newbury's server-based WiFi Watchdog wireless intrusion prevention
system (IPS) and Senforce's location-aware Endpoint Security Suite.
The software suite is available from senforce.com.
Trust Digital and Aventail have also combined their
applications into an integrated mobile security package.
The package features policy-based end point security from Trust
Digital and secure access using Aventail Mobile, an SSL VPN client
for Windows smart phones and PDAs. The software provides full
support for Microsoft Exchange Active Sync (part of SP2 for Exchange
2003), Web applications, and thick client applications. The joint
offering is available through both trustdigital.com and aventail.com.
VolumeShield
released AntiCopy Personal Edition, which is a free version of
its AntiCopy port security software for desktop and laptop
computers. AntiCopy blocks the unauthorized use of portable storage
devices and removable media, such as USB memory sticks, iPods,
PDAs, CD/DVD Burner, and digital cameras. The Personal Edition
is offered free for non-commercial use at volumeshield.com. The
Enterprise Edition costs US $19.95 per workstation.
Maximizer
Software released version 9 of its Maximizer contact manager
software for individuals and small businesses. New features
in version 9 include a new action planner for organizing and planning
series of events, a wizard for creating customized reports with
Crystal Reports XI Professional, and improved synchronization
to Microsoft Outlook and BlackBerry, Pocket PC and Palm OS handhelds.
The new version also lets users call contacts from within Maximizer,
and automatically brings up the profile of incoming calls. Maximizer
9 sells for US $229 for a single user license at maximizer.com.
Ekahau
announced version 2.2 of its Ekahau Site Survey (ESS) WLAN
planning tool for large enterprises. Version 2.2 includes
an optimized network planning algorithm that delivers simulation
and network planning that is more than 10 times faster than in
previous versions, according to Ekahau. The new release also introduces
improved device support for quicker, more accurate surveying of
dense networks consisting of hundreds of access points. Ekahau
Site Survey 2.2 is currently available in an English language
version, and, by March, it will be available in French, German,
Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. The price for the ESS Pro edition
including all the optional modules is US $3,695. A free trial

Alcatel
announced the latest version of its Alcatel Operating System (AOS)
WLAN portfolio and a series of new access points
(APs). The latest AOS delivers new features for the Alcatel OmniAccess
wireless LAN product family for better support of voice over Wi-Fi
(VoWi-Fi) traffic. The Alcatel OmniAccess WLAN is Alcatel's enterprise
Wi-Fi switch platform that integrates with Alcatel OmniSwitch
LAN switches and the Alcatel OmniPCX IP telephony platforms. The
newest AOS adds quality of service (QoS) features. A new call
administration control capability built into the switches manages
the number of Voice-over-IP devices that are associated with a
specific Alcatel AP and can redirect overflow callers to neighboring
access points. AOS is available now from alcatel.com.
