Jan.
10, 2006 -- (MobileVillage) -- Over the next 18 months, the
number of companies deploying wide area wireless networks
(WANs) for field service communications and data exchange
may double, according to figures from a new report by AberdeenGroup.
While
37% of companies Aberdeen recently surveyed currently leverage
WANs for field service communications, another 44% plan to
within the next 18 months, making wide-area wireless the leading
data connectivity method for field service organizations by
2007, according to the newly published AberdeenGroup report,
"The Mobile Field Service Solution Selection Report."
AberdeenGroup
estimates the mobile field service solution market to experience
steady growth as price-to-performance models improve and solution
providers continue to develop more out-of-the-box solutions that
require minimal customization.
In addition,
solution providers are increasingly coming to market with hosted,
or on-demand deployment options, making mobile field service applications
more accessible for small and mid-size enterprises.
According
to the report, service organizations that deploy mobile field
service solutions in tandem with business process improvements
have seen average performance gains that include:
- 27%
increase in worker productivity
- 19%
increase in customer satisfaction and retention
- 17%
increase in overall profitability, and
- 13%
increase in service revenues
