PalmSource opens nominations for U.S. powered up awards

Nov.
14, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- PalmSource (NASDAQ:PSRC), provider
of Palm OS operating system for mobile devices, today announced
it has officially opened nominations for the Fall 2005 U.S.
Powered Up Awards. Palm software developers can enter the
awards until 6pm PST on Sunday, December 11, 2005, and Award
winners will be announced on Wednesday, December 14, 2005.
The awards
will be given in five categories:
The winner
of the Enterprise/Productivity category will receive a Palm
Treo 650 smartphone and US $1,000.
The winner
of the Wireless/Over-the-Air category will receive a Palm
Treo 650 smartphone and US $1,000.
The winner
of the Multimedia category will receive a Palm LifeDrive mobile
manager and US $1,000.
The Winner
of the Games/Entertainment category will receive a Palm Tungsten
E2 handheld and US $1,000..
There
is also a category for In-House / Custom Application (apps
not commercially available).
The winners
in the first four categories will also also receive a co-marketing
package valued at approximately $13,000.
For the
first time, the Powered Up Awards feature a monetary prize
for the Best-In-Class grand prize. The Best-In-Class grand
prize winner will be selected by the judges from the nominees
in the Enterprise/Productivity, Wireless/Over-The-Air, Multimedia
and Games/Entertainment categories. The winner of the Best-In-Class
award will receive US $10,000, a Palm, Inc. smartphone or
handheld of their choice and a co-marketing package valued
at approximately US $20,000.
The Fall
2005 Powered Up Awards are being co-sponsored by Palm, Inc.,
Cingular Wireless, PalmGear.com, a division of Motricity and
CNET Download.com.

news, PalmSource recently cofounded the Linux Phone Standards
(LiPS) Forum, whose purpose is to accelerate the adoption
of Linux in fixed, mobile and converged devices by "standardizing
Linux-based services and APIs that most directly influence
the development, deployment and interoperability of applications
and user-level services" according to LiPS. Other founding
members include France Telecom/Orange, FSM Labs, Huawei, Jaluna,
MontaVista Software, MIZI Research, Open Plug, Arm, Cellon
and Esmertec.
