LXE's latest rugged computer gets speech recognition

September
27, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- LXE has added two new rugged
handhelds targeted at supply chain processes.
The rugged,
wearable HX1 features open systems hardware and software
architecture are designed to support open system, voice directed
applications. The HX1 is built around LXE's ToughTalk technology.
ToughTalk is LXE's specialized combination of LXE's ruggedized
system design, audio circuitry and noise canceling techniques.
LXE is
also "voice-enabling" its line of rugged handheld
and vehicle mounted computers by integrating ToughTalk technology
into these units. Its first such unit to be voice enabled
is the rugged MX7. The MX7 has a two-finger trigger
and molded rubber grip for picking applications.
The MX7
also has multi-range scanning capabilities that enable bar
code reads from four inches to 40 feet, so operators can perform
warehouse moves ranging from receiving to full pallet put-aways
with the same version of the computer. If the warehouse is
noisy, there's a Good Scan bar code vibrator inside the unit
that can be used to verify successful scans.
The
MX7 is powered by the latest Windows CE 5.0 operating system
and an Intel XScale PXA255 processor, and has a 802.11b/g
radio and Bluetooth option. The MX7 also includes LXE's ToughTalk
technology, so that customers can run both their voice logistics
applications and their traditional barcode scanning applications
on the same unit.
Customers
can customize any key on the MX7 to deliver custom data to
their application.
LXE did
not provide pricing or availability dates. For more information,
