Sybase updates its "Unwired" mobile app development
platforms

22, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Sybase (NYSE:SY) today announced
updated versions of its mobile application development platforms:
Sybase Unwired Accelerator 7.0 and Sybase Unwired Orchestrator
5.0.
Unwired Accelerator 7.0 is the newest version of Sybase's
rapid mobile application development platform designed to
help enterprises more easily push information out to the workforce
via PDAs, smartphones and other wireless devices. The platform
supports a range of enterprise applications, including SAP,
Business Objects, Lotus Notes, Remedy, Web-enabled applications,
Web Services and databases.
New features in Unwired Accelerator 7.0 include:
- Mobilization wizard for SAP applications
- Mobilization wizard for Business Objects reports and key
performance indicators so that business users can access
their business intelligence reports on their mobile devices
- Mobilization wizard for Remedy service management applications
to provide data access for service workers and technicians
- Enhancements to the Application Builder for developers
of mobile applications
- Enhancements to the BlackBerry Unwired Accelerator application
to support field validation and logging
Unwired Orchestrator 5.0 is Sybase's platform for composite
application development and mobile solution enablement. Based
on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) design paradigm,
Unwired Orchestrator reuses customers' existing data assets
to more rapidly develop and deploy new composite applications,
according to Sybase.
New features in Unwired Orchestrator 5.0 include:
- Integration with Sybase WorkSpace, Sybase's Eclipse-based
SODA design-time tooling, which also includes the Eclipse
Java IDE
- New J2EE-based business process engine
- New Java-based rules and message transformation engine
- Support for development of Java composite services via
BPEL4WS service orchestration
- Enhanced, fully integrated business activity monitoring
(BAM) platform
- Improved support for standards including BPEL4WS, RuleML
and JSR-94
- Integrated support for access to databases, FTP, file
systems, email providers, SMS messaging, Web services, EJB's,
JMS and Java classes
Sybase Unwired Accelerator 7.0 and Unwired Orchestrator 5.0
will both be generally available on August 30, 2005. For more
