August
25, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- In separate announcements,
Delphi Medical Systems and MedAptus have announced updates
to their software offerings for mobile healthcare workers.
Delphi
Medical today announced that its PocketChart electronic
medical record (EMR) software now comes bundled with a
Windows CE based PDA for US $1,495.
PocketChart
enables physicians and other health care workers to create,
enter, update, and access their patients' medical record data
-- such as medical history, exam notes, prescriptions, and
coding -- with a few taps of a pen on customizable menus or
pick-lists. The software also works on PCs and laptops.
While the US $1500 price for the PDA-and-PocketChart combo
is no small sum by consumer standards, Delphi says that it's
a great deal for healthcare providers, since Medicare is plugging
its current EMR software to physicians nationwide for $2,700.
PocketChart
also has a drug interaction database that provides screening
on
new and current prescriptions, and assists in billing. Delphi
Medical also offers optional specialized add-ons available
for specialties such as Psychiatry, Trauma, and Surgery, and
updates to the software are free for the first three years.
PocketChart
complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act, HIPAA, by protecting patients' health information, according
to Delphi Medical. The
company also sells the software separately. For more information,
see delphimedical.com.
MedAptus
yesterday announced a new Tablet PC version of its Electronic
Charge Capture software, previously available only on
Windows based PCs and Windows Mobile Pocket PC handhelds.
The Tablet
PC version affords physicians the same application functionality
as the handheld version, and all components are completely
interchangeable, according to MedAptus. For example, with
our system a physician can use a Tablet in his office and
later take his handheld device to the hospital for use during
rounds.
The company
did not provide pricing details. For more information, see the
MedAptus web site.
