Fortress, Rajant team on portable WLAN units for disaster
response or military use
August
2, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Fortress Technologies and Rajant
Corporation today announced a joint effort to embed Fortress'
security technology in Rajant's BreadCrumb devices, which
are mobile wireless LAN systems that allow disaster first-responders
and military personnel to access, receive and transmit data
securely in real-time.
BreadCrumbs
are battery powered, lunchbox-sized, ruggedized broadband
devices. The units are compatible with any wireless device
meeting 802.3 (ethernet) and 802.11b (Wi-Fi) standards, according
to Rajant.
Fortress
Technologies is providing the embedded FIPS 140-2 certified,
Layer 2 encryption to ensure that all information transmitted
across the ad hoc networks -- voice, video and data are secure.
Rajant
says that its BreadCrumb systems were recently used to enable
voice, data and video communications in the Tsunami relief
effort in Thailand, where they were set up and operational
within fifteen minutes.
