MobiForms, FSMLabs offer new mobile developer tools
- Gary Thayer, Editor
July
5, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- In separate announcements, MobiForms
and FSMLabs have announced new developer tools for mobile
devices, with the latter targeting devices with ARM processors
only.
MobiForms
announced version 2.0 of its MobiForms rapid application development
software for mobile database applications on Windows CE, Pocket
PC, EPOC/Symbian and Palm. According to the company, MobiForms
lets people develop applications for asset collection, field
service, inspection, market research, site surveys, stock
control and workshop management in minutes, without knowing
Java or C++.
MobiForms
says its latest release makes a local database unnecessary.
Instead, developers can read and write to any ASCII file format
like Excel CSV using the MobiForms MobiScript language. MobiScript
also lets developers call other programs like bar code scanning
software.
Another
improvement is a color palette and font chooser so that the
developer can apply attributes directly to buttons, check
boxes, fields, labels and lists.
For more
information see the Mobiforms web site.
FSMLabs'
RTLinuxPro development and deployment platform targets
system-level applications for wireless and handheld devices
running on ARM processors. RTLinuxPro can be used to develop
applications for mobile phones, Linux based PDAs, SOHO wireless
and wireline networking (access, routers, home gateways, etc.),
medical and industrial portable instruments and other such
devices.
RTLinux
offers support for baseband interfaces in Linux-based mobile
phones and other wireless devices without costly dedicated
wireless modem chips, according to FSMLabs.
The software
tool lets developers combine multimedia applications and signal
processing on a single ARM CPU core, and reach line-speeds
in Linux-based home networking devices, with faster out-of-band
processing and exception handling, says the company.
The RTLinuxPro
tool kit includes FSMLabs real-time development and deployment
environment for ARM processors, plus a standard Linux distribution
including a 2.6 kernel, provided on a single installation
DVD-ROM. Included is support for the ARM920T and ARM926EJ-S
processors, with chip and board support for SoCs from Atmel,
FreeScale, Intel (PXA and IXP), Texas Instruments (OMAP) and
other ARM partners. For a complete list of supported hardware,
contact FSMLabs.
RTLinuxPro
for ARM processors is available directly from FSMLabs and
its channel partners.
