June
29, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- American Power Conversion (APC)
today announced a 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router, which allows
PC or laptop users to access a network and the Internet without
a direct cable connection. The router costs US $70 and is
powered via a USB port or the included power adapter.
APC's
3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router accesses a network in one of
three ways. As a router, the unit connects multiple networks
together via a wireless connection such as a local network
and the Internet, and eliminates the need for a wired connection.
The router also provides various security options allowing
users to set the protection and manageability levels of the
network, according to APC.
As an
access point, the unit acts as a wireless bridge between an
existing LAN and wireless user. It allows users to put a computer
anywhere within the range of the router.
In Ethernet
client mode, the unit provides wireless access to devices
such as desktop PCs, game consoles, and digital video recorders
containing an Ethernet port. In this mode, the unit simply
connects to an existing wireless network.
According
to APC, the 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router allows for a distance
of up to 300 feet between the router and card bus. It offers
Wi-Fi protected access pre-shared key (WPA-PSK) and 128/64
bit WEP Encryption with built-in firewall protection. This
router also fits in the internal pocket of APC's notebook
cases.
When
the 3-in-1 Wireless Mobile Router is used with APC's Universal
Power Adapter (US $80), it is possible to power the router,
a notebook computer, and a mobile phone simultaneously from
any single air, auto, or AC power outlet, according to the
company.
