May 19,
2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Textware Solutions has announced
Instant Text Mobile for Palm OS, a new program that aims to
speed up text entry on a PDA, such as for composing emails,
taking notes or preparing documents.
Textware
is the same company that produces the Fitaly keyboard software
for Palm OS and Windows Mobile PDAs. Textware also supplies
a Windows version of Instant Text, which the company says
is often used in medical transcription.
Instant
Text Mobile allows users to enter words and phrases with only
a few letters, without requiring users to memorize predefined
abbreviations. A user enters only a few letters, and Instant
Text flashes choices of complete words and phrases. For example,
the letters trf, tfo, trfo, tfm, tft, tftion, among others,
will all produce the word "transformation" as a
choice. A single tap enters the word on the PDA.
As letters
are being entered, they may also produce a phrase. Instant
Text Mobile's glossaries contain thousands of phrases that
are frequently used in everyday letters, memos, and emails:
phrases such as "I would like to receive," "you
are going to," "on the other hand," "whether
or not,"and "for your review." In
an attorney's glossary, for example, "natc" typed
right in the middle of a sentence might yield a word like
"naturalistic" but also the phrase "notwithstanding
anything to the contrary". The software also allows users
to quickly add new phrases to a glossary.
Instant
Text Mobile sells for for US $29, with an introductory price
of $25 applies until the end of September. The software is
available at the Textware Solutions web site, along with a
fully functional demo.
