HTC claims first Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone for 3G networks

2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Coinciding with the launch of Microsoft's
new Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system this week, Taiwan
based High Tech Computer, or HTC (TAIEX: 2498) has announced
its plans to be first to the gate with the first 3G-network
capable smartphone based on Windows Mobile 5.0.
The handheld,
called the HTC Universal (shown below, and previously called
the MDA IV), was used by Bill Gates as he unveiled
Windows Mobile 5.0 during his keynote at Microsoft Mobile
& Embedded DevCon 2005 in Las Vegas.

HTC
expects to see the device offered by mobile operators
in Europe, North America, and Asia, in the second half
of 2005.
HTC says the Universal promises improved support of
multimedia and productivity applications, broad integration
of digital multimedia, faster Internet and email connections,
and 'seamless' synchronization to Office applications.

The clamshell Universal has a built-in keyboard, camera,
dual speaker stereophonic sound system, and video capabilities
for videoconferencing. The Universal's also features a 180-degree
pivoting screen, which can be viewed in portrait and landscape
modes.
