- May 4, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Two new applications for
Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) devices have been made available
this week: a data protection application called Confidential
Notes, and a phone book manager called QuickContact.
London,
UK based HNS Consulting, publisher of the net-security.org
security information portal, has released its Confidential
Notes software for protecting data on a Windows Mobile
handheld. The program features two password authorization
levels - standard and advanced - which can be changed as the
user wishes. Once logged in, users can create four types of
notes (text, sketch, audio, and combo) and create customized
folders for faster access to data. Notes are encrypted with
256 bit AES, and users can also back up the folder containing
the encrypted notes.
Confidential
Notes 1.0 runs on Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003 and
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition devices. The installation
is available in both Microsoft Windows Setup format and CAB
format. The required space for installing the software to
the device is 300 kb. To download Confidential Notes, see
pocketpcsecurity.com.
Novosibirsk,
Russia based Vito Technology has announced a "rebirth"
of its QuickContact phone book software for Pocket
PC handhelds. QuickContact for Pocket PC and Symbian allow
one-handed control of the phone book and include various search
methods and other tools.

QuickContact
1.0, formerly known as QuickContact Pro PE, lets users
call contacts, input phone numbers, send SMS or e-mails,
open web pages and search people. The software currently
only works on Pocket PC phones, but Vito says it is
working on a version that will allow non-smartphone
users to connect to a mobile phone. Vito also offers
QuickContact for SonyEricsson P910/P900/P800 devices.

The unique
feature of QuickContact is its one-hand control: using only
the PDA's joystick, users can search for and dial contacts,
and input phone numbers without touching the screen.
QuickContact
features two search modes. One of them is already familiar
to the users of QuickContact: scrolling through the first
letters of the names of contacts, users can find the desired
contact in just several presses of the joystick. Another search
method is combined with the keypad: when the user enters a
number, QuickContact checks if this number or a contact that
contains such letters already exist and displays variants
for quick dial. If there is no such contact, it just dials
the number that was entered.
A free
trial version of QuickContact is available on the at Vito
Technology web site. Existing owners of QuickContact Pro PE
can purchase the new QuickContact at a special price on their
online account page.
