& BlackBerry

-- In separate announcements, TeleType and Wallace Wireless
have released new GPS mapping applications for Windows Mobile
and BlackBerry devices, respectively.
Wallace
Wireless' new Wallace Emergency Locator (WEL) for BlackBerry
handhelds combines mapping technology from ESRI Technologies
with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) location-based services.
According to Wallace, the WEL maps can provide quick answers
on the location of the user and other team members, destinations,
and routes. The application allows users to locate key team
members in a crisis and see their locations plotted on one
map. Users can also request and receive back a map with highlighted
team member locations.
WEL provides
location-based support for Wallace Wireless' business continuity
and emergency response wireless software, the Wallace Incident
Communicator, which allows mobile users to access their most
current emergency measure documents, notifications, maps,
floor plans, call lists and live images via BlackBerry.
Wallace
Wireless did not provide pricing details. For more information,
see the Wallace Wireless web site.
TeleType
released a new program for Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) devices
that supports both vector based marine maps and street and
air navigation maps. The software enables mariners to navigate
in real time using converted NOAA ENC maps, and to see shoreline
and surrounding streets for combination sail and drive trips.
TeleType
offers a variety of packages for mariners including a choice
of GPS receiver (Compact Flash or Bluetooth, both 12-channel
WAAS), and converted ENC charts for the U.S. Software-only
packages cost US $379, bundles of U.S. Maps, Program, and
GPS receiver (excluding Pocket PC) begin at $549, and complete
systems including Pocket PC devices start at $899.
For more
information, see the TeleType web site.
