In separate announcements, two companies today introduced
mobile video streaming applications. Orb Networks today launched
its mobile streaming media product for consumers, as well
as a beta release of a French language version. Inetcam announced
the availability of its Mobile Gateway Plus video server,
targeted primarily at security applications.
Orb
Networks' free service provides consumers with mobile
access to their music, photos, videos, webcams and other digital
content located on their home PC from virtually any Internet-enabled
device, according to the company.
Orb says
it is currently establishing business relationships with providers
of television guide data in many countries, including France,
Japan and Great Britain, that will allow users to stream live
TV for free. Until then, the Orb TV feature is only available
in the United States. Users can remotely record TV
programs using Orb's Digital Video Recorder function and view
those recorded programs at any time on any of their mobile
devices. Orb Networks says it abides by current digital rights
management (DRM) platforms.
To supplement
the English and French versions, Orb Networks plans to deliver
additional language releases of its streaming media service
over the next few months. For more information, see the Orb
Networks web site.
Inetcam's
Mobile Gateway Plus video server uses analog and IP cameras
as inputs and streams to PDAs, browsers, and any cell phone
running the iMViewer application. The video server can receive
analog camera feeds, loop through from a CCTV DVR or time-lapse
VCR unit, or IP cameras from most manufacturers. Mobile Gateway
Plus also supports covert camera features so viewers can only
see a subset of the total number of cameras configured on
the server.
Mobile
Gateway Plus allows viewers using Java enabled browsers such
as: Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, and Mozilla. It
also streams video to J2ME and BREW enabled mobile handsets
on both CDMA and GSM based wireless networks. The Mobile Gateway
Plus product lineup is remotely administered via web browser.
For more information, see the Inetcam web site.
