Kontron
adds newest rugged mobile computer

Prarie, MN, April 5, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Kontron America
today announced the availability of the FieldWorks 8600 --
the newest in the company's line of rugged, mobile computers
for field-deployed professionals such as in telemetry, data
acquisition, test and measurement.
The FieldWorks
8600 is powered by a 1.70 GHz Intel Pentium M processor 735.
The computer features an expansion card cage with full universal
AC input and 10-30 VDC power supply. It also features connection
for three full-length or six half-length PCI expansion cards.
It is
ruggedness tested and certified to Mil-Std-810F military standards
to withstand shock (75G) and vibration, and active cooling
technology allowing for operation in wide temperature ranges,
according to Kontron America.
The FieldWorks
8600 features a standard 12.1-inch XGA Active LCD display.
An optional XGA High-Bright Sunlight Readable TransRadiant
Display is available for indoor and outdoor viewing. The TransRadiant
Display operates at 250 NITs, compared to standard notebook
displays operating at 130 NITs.
Other
features of the FieldWorks 8600 include:
- 512
MB of RAM, with option for up to 1GB.
- 40GB
hard drive, with optional higher capacities and dual removable
hard drives.
- Windows
XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional
- integrated
floppy and CD-ROM drives, with optional integrated CD-RW
drive.
- one
parallel port, two serial ports, two USB 2.0 ports and one
Type I-III PCMCIA slot.
The FieldWorks
