Gateway, MPC add new widescreen notebooks

Irvine, CA & Nampa, ID, April 12, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Gateway and MPC Computers this week have each separately announced new widescreen notebook computers. MPC's new TransPort T2300 notebook in 14.1-inch and 15-inch models mainly targets business users, and Gateway's 6010GZ 15.4-inch notebook and 3522GZ 14-inch notebooks are priced for consumers.

Gateway 6010GZ & 6510GZ 15.4-inch notebooks

Gateway's new 6010GZ notebook has a 15.4-inch widescreen display. the notebook weighs in at about six pounds and measures 1.31 inches. The 6010GZ has an Intel Celeron M 360 processor and integrated 802.11g wireless with integrated BroadRange Technology. As a result, the notebook can roam up to 50 percent further from an access point, and can operate in high speed mode to experience 40 percent greater throughput, according to Gateway.

The 6010GZ has a 60GB hard drive and 512MB of DDR memory. The system also has a digital media manager, and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. The 6010GZ is priced at US $1,000.

Another model, the Gateway 6510GZ, features the latest technology in the same form factor and 15.4-inch widescreen display. For $250 more than the Gateway 6010GZ, users can get the 6510GZ with an Intel Pentium M processor, Intel Centrino Mobile Technology and other upgraded features including a DVD+/-R/RW drive. The 6510GZ retails for US $1,250.

Gateway 3522GZ 14-inch model

The Gateway 3522GZ notebook PC has a 14-inch display, measures 1.1-inches and weighs 5.25 pounds. The 3522GZ comes with and Intel Centrino Mobile technology and integrated Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG 802.11b/g wireless. The new notebook runs on an Intel Pentium M processor 725.

The Gateway 3522GZ boasts the features of much larger notebooks, including 512MB of DDR memory and a large 60GB hard drive. The system also has a multi-format DVD+/-R/RW drive and integrated 4-in-1 digital media reader.

The Gateway 3522GZ retails for US $1,200.

MPC TransPort T2300 notebooks

MPC's new TransPort T2300 notebook computer incorporates the latest Intel Centrino Mobile technology, the Intel 915PM chipset, Gigabit Ethernet, and enhanced wireless connectivity. The Intel 915PM chipset supports up to 2GB of high-speed 533MHz DDR2 memory, faster 533FSB Intel Processors and enhanced graphic capabilities with PCI-Express video graphics at 64MB or 128MB.

The TransPort T2300 also features Intel PRO Wireless 2915 a/b/g capabilities. This notebook also features a wireless on/off switch, which allows users to disable wireless when necessary and still continue working.

The thin and light TransPort T2300 is the follow-on product to the TransPort T2200. The notebook offers a choice of 14.1" or 15.0" displays, legacy ports for parallel and serial connections, 4 USB 2.0 ports, a bridge battery and a 3-in-1 media reader, allowing for transfer of various media such as memory stick pro, memory stick duo and secure digital.

The T2300 also includes an integrated biometric fingerprint scanner. When enabled, this feature requires the user to scan his or her fingerprint before being granted access to the system. The fingerprint recognition feature can also be applied to specific files or applications on the PC, which automatically encrypts select data files or folders to ensure that only authorized users will be able to access their own data.

The TransPort T2300 includes three years of depot repair service, replacement parts and technical support as part of the standard configuration. An additional two years of depot repair service, replacement parts and technical support is available, as well as optional premium services.
