Wireless 2005 news roundup: enterprise software

Wireless, New Orleans, March 14-16, 2005 -- (MobileVillage)
-- At this year's huge CTIA Wireless tradeshow, several companies
announced improvements to their mobile software products for
enterprises. A summarized list of announcements is below.
Product
launches
Avocent's
Mobile Solutions Group announced the latest version of SonicAdmin,
its remote network management software that enables
network administrators to securely manage networks via a smartphone,
PDA, BlackBerry or other mobile device. Version 4.0 adds the
ability to manage Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino servers. The
software also integrates with third-party applications including
TelAlert, NetIQ AppManager, Microsoft Exchange, RIM BlackBerry
Enterprise Server, and RSA SecurID. SonicAdmin 4.0 will be
available in April and costs US $249 per managed server, $2,000
for a 10 pack, and $7,500 for 50.

Bluefire
Security released updated versions of its mobile
security software for Palm, Pocket PC and Windows
Mobile devices: Bluefire Mobile Security Suite 3.5 and
Bluefire Mobile Security VPN 2.0. Both products work
across Wi-Fi, LAN, GSM and CDMA connections. More

BuddyStream
Technologies anounced its new Instant Messaging and IM
integration platform targeted at enterprises, wireless providers,
and integrators. The platform connects to enterprise instant
messaging applications including IBM Sametime, Novell, Microsoft
Live Communication Server, Jabber, and WiredRed. Customers
can choose from modules including BuddyStream, BuddyBots,
BuddyAlerts, BuddyContent and BuddyMail.
eAgency
Systems announced its web-based wireless CRM software
caled Nice Office Universal Edition, which provides over-the-air
wireless synchronization of sales and customer data as well
email, calendar, and contacts for organizations using the
RIM BlackBerry server. The software is also available in a
'dashboard-style' version that allows users to view production
reports, monitor account status, track agent activity, and
distribute leads. Besides being available directly from eAgency,
the product will be available from Verizon, Nextel, T-Mobile,
Cingular and Sprint.

Mobile announced the launch of SureWave Mobile Connect,
a wireless e-mail subscription service that lets mobile
device users receive Microsoft Outlook e-mail and personal
information management (PIM) data from their corporate or
ASP/ISP Exchange server. More

MapInfo
announced the latest version of MapInfo MapX Mobile, its mapping
software for Windows Mobile Pocket PC software developers
that enables organizations to receive, view and analyze data
wherever critical decisions are made-in the field and across
the enterprise. Version 5.0 adds support for ECW imagery format,
thematic mapping, object creation and processing. MapX Mobile
v5.0 can be customized via standard development languages
such as Embedded C++ and Microsoft .NET. Data created using
MapX Mobile can be displayed with MapInfo's MapXtreme 2004
location-based development environment built on .NET.
Smartner
announced the North American debut of its Always-On Mail
suite of real-time e-mail applications, which enable
users of Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Symbian smartphones
to interoperate with e-mail, PIM and calendar functions of
Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Domino. Besides being available
from Smartner and through carriers, Always-On Mail will be
shipped on select Nokia and Sony Ericsson handsets in North
America. Smartner was recently sued by Visto, who is claiming
patent infringement, but Smartner disputes the charges.
Product
plans
Sybase
says it will be extending support for the RIM BlackBerry
wireless platform within its iAnywhere mobile product. iAnywhere
allows mobile users to access enterprise applications and
email. Sybase did not provide details on its plans. More information

Partnership
deals
Action
Engine announced a deal with Microsoft to co-market
its Action Engine Mobile Application Platform software to
enterprises and educational/government institutions using
the Microsoft BizTalk Server communications hub. The Action
Engine platform allows enterprises to create customized mobile
applications such as directories, maps and information contained
within Microsoft Sharepoint, Web portal or SQL CRM data stores.
The application packs can also include news, driving directions
and restaurant finders. All information accessed by the applications
can be updated over-the-air to the end user. More information
