Trend Micro updates its mobile security software to v2
Hanover,
Germany, March 11, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- At the CeBIT
tradeshow in Germany today, Trend Micro announced version
2.0 of its Trend Micro Mobile Security (TMMS) antivirus and
SMS anti-spam protection software for wireless mobile data
devices such as smartphones.
Version
2.0 provides increased device support with the addition of
Symbian OS v7.0 with the Series 60 Platform (example: Nokia
6600, 7610). Pattern files can be provided "over the
air" utilising the same method as mobile phone provider
software upgrades, enabling rapid updates as new threats emerge,
according to Trend Micro.
Management
and provisioning is enabled through the TMMS Mobile Management
Console, permitting mobile operators and enterprises to remotely
equip, update and control the protection on client devices.
Already
in 2005 a number of new mobile malware have been identified,
including the Vlasco family; which uses Bluetooth to propagate,
and Comwar, which uses Bluetooth or MMS to propagate. So far
all viruses have been extremely limited in scope, with only
a few reported cases in affected countries.
Trend
Micro says its Mobile Security version 1.0 will function until
30 June 2005. Version 2.0 will be available for testing in
Q2 2005 with volume deployments in Q3 2005. Pricing for specific
customer deployments is available on request from your local
Trend Micro office.
