March
7, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Taiwan based Mio Technology
today announced that their latest GPS Pocket PC -- the Mio168RS
-- is available in North America. The Mio 168RS combines a
Global Positioning System (GPS) built-in receiver and Mio's
MioMap mapping software.
As a
fully functional Pocket PC, the Mio168RS has Microsoft's Pocket
PC 2003 second edition operating system that includes Microsoft's
Pocket Outlook, Word, Excel, Media Player and Internet Explorer
programs. The handheld runs on Intel's Xscale 300 MHz processor.
 |
As
a GPS navigation system, the Mio168RS is ready to use
"out of the box" and requires no monthly subscription
fees, installation or setup fees. The Mio168RS provides
GPS satellite access, point-to-point driving directions,
millions of points-of-interest (POI), route planning,
and real time voice navigation, according to Mio. Should
a driver miss a turn, take the wrong road or experience
unexpected detours, the handheld automatically suggests
alternative routes. Maps are continually updated for the
continental US, Hawaii and Canada. |
Other
PDA features on the Mio168 include a 3.5" color transflective
LCD display with the ability to view photos and videos in
landscape or portrait mode, LED backlighting, and personal
information management software for appointments, calendar
events and follow up contacts. The handheld device has a 32MB
flash ROM and 64MB of SDRAM and includes an SD/MMC expansion
slot for additional storage capacity.
The Mio168RS
retails for US $599. A list of resellers is available on the
MioGPS web site.
