Recon add-on supports CF cameras, bar code scanners &
SD cards
Las Vegas,
Jan. 11, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Tripod Data Systems (TDS),
a subsidiary of Trimble, has announced a CompactFlash add-on
for the TDS Recon that allows the rugged handheld to use CompactFlash
cameras, bar code scanners and SD memory cards.
The new
Optical CF-Cap (US $120) features a clear window to allow
the Recon to work with selected CompactFlash cameras and bar
code scanners. The cap is completely sealed to protect CompactFlash
accessories from dust, dirt, water and impacts from accidental
drops.
TDS is
bundling the Optical CF-Cap with additional accessories:
- The
Optical CF-Cap bundled with LifeView's FlyCAM camera ($250
for both) lets users capture still photos and live video.
- The
Optical CF-Cap bundled with Socket Communications' In-Hand
Scan Card-Imager ($775 for both) allows users to scan a
variety of bar codes including linear (1-D), stacked bar
codes, stacked matrix (2-D) and postal bar codes. It can
also capture VGA images.
- An
optional CF-to-SD adapter ($35) allows users to transfer
data between the Recon and SD memory cards. The adapter
also allows access to the memory card slot while other large
CF devices such as GPS and wireless cards are being used
in the Recon's second slot.
The new
Recon accessories and bundles are available through Mobile
Planet and the TDSway web site.
Last
month, TDS announced the availability of the Recon with a
German language interface.
