& Psion-Teklogix announce new rugged handhelds

York, Jan. 12, 2004 -- (MobileVillage) -- In separate announcements,
Psion-Teklogix and Symbol Technologies unveiled new rugged
handheld computers targeted at applications such as data capture,
signature capture, and inventory scanning.

Symbol MC3000
Symbol introduced the new Symbol MC3000 rugged handheld,
based on the latest Intel XScale processor with Microsoft
Windows CE .NET 4.2 and Wi-Fi (802.11b and 802.11g)
connectivity.

The MC3000 has scanning and imaging technologies
for batch and WLAN configurations. An adjustable rotating
scan turret with left, right and front positions to allows
the user to adjust the scanning positions for increased comfort
and productivity.
The MC3000 supports Symbol's Mobility Services Platform
agent, which aims to enable enterprises to monitor and manage
the handhelds in real-time via a
centralized console.
Symbol did not provide pricing or a shipping date for the
MC3000.

Psion
Teklogix has unveiled the WORKABOUT PRO S, a new smaller
version of its Windows CE .NET based WORKABOUT PRO handheld.
The WORKABOUT PRO received a 2004 Mobile Star Award from
MobileVillage readers in the rugged handheld computer
category. |
Like
Psion Teklogix' other CE .NET devices, the WORKABOUT PRO S
has an Intel XScale processor, color touch-screen, 802.11b
technologies, WAN (GSM/GPRS, CDMA) capabilities, Bluetooth,
RFID and SNMP.
With
its scanner options, the WORKABOUT PRO S can be used for signature-capture
and barcode scanning in direct-to-store delivery, transportation
and logistics, retail, and field service. The handheld can
be used in batch, WLAN or WWAN implementations.
With
an IP54 rating and ability to withstand multiple drops from
four feet to concrete, according to the company.
The WORKABOUT
PRO S will be available February 2005 in North America, Europe
and Asia from company distributors, and from the Psion Teklogix
