Handmark
wireless information service adds BlackBerry users
Kansas
City, MO, Jan.11, 2005 -- (MobileVillage) -- Handmark has
announced new support for RIM BlackBerry handhelds for users
of its Handmark Pocket Express browser-less wireless subscription-based
service. The service has already been available for Palm OS
and Windows Mobile / Pocket PC devices.
Pocket
Express provides access to news, stocks, sports, weather,
movies, maps, directory search, and driving directions. The
software can achieve download speeds up to 70 times faster
than conventional mobile web browsers, according to Handmark.
The service
is now available as a download for ten color display BlackBerry
models: BlackBerry 7100, 7210, 7230, 7280, 7290, 7510, 7520,
7730, 7750, and 7780.
Pocket
Express subscribers can look up a restaurant or movie time,
find the address, locate it on a map, then create turn-by-turn
directions to the destination. Pocket Express also displays
Doppler weather radar images, news stories in nine different
categories, NCAA basketball scores and schedules, and more.
Handmark
Pocket Express for BlackBerry is available directly from the
Handmark website. Most U.S. BlackBerry subscribers can also
purchase Pocket Express through their wireless carrier by
searching on BlackBerry software. Subscriptions are US $6.99
per month, or $69.90 with a prepaid one-year subscription.
