Metaswitch MaX mobile unified communications & mobile business collaboration examples

MaX by Metaswitch is a new mobile unified communications and mobile business collaboration platform that’s winning over major carriers and their business users.

Announced in 2018, MaX by Metaswitch is an innovative group communications and collaboration product family for customers of mobile operators or carriers. MaX combines carrier-grade voice, network intelligence, smartphone native-dialer capabilities, and a “business feed” application to provide contextual communications services.

The ubiquity of mobile communications, our changing work/life patterns and the BYOD phenomenon have created new challenges for small businesses, prosumers, families. Common struggles include juggling multiple communications personas on one device, and dealing with poor voice quality from over-the-top (OTT) apps.

Mobile unified communications with revenue opportunities

Metaswtich says it developed MaX from the ground up to resolve the pain points of millions of users worldwide who are simply seeking a better mobile experience. Mobile operators using MaX can provide new alternatives to OTT applications, and deliver revenue-generating multi-persona and group collaboration services to businesses and consumers.

Metaswitch Max mobile unified communications video stillMaX allows mobile network operators to blend the native dialer of the smartphone (Android and iOS) with network-based voice and messaging services, multiple personas, group communications and collaboration features, and simple options for users to manage and control the experience from their mobile devices.

MaX vs. other mobile UC offerings

According to Metaswitch, MaX is the only product in market to use “advanced network-based intelligence” to handle the complexities of multi persona routing and ID presentation from inside the network. This network intelligence greatly simplifies and streamlines the user experience, Metaswitch says.

Also, Metaswitch is unique in from other mobile unified communications and collaboration offerings. For example, similar offerings which let consumers have multiple phone numbers across one or more mobile devices require the customer to have an account specifically with that mobile operator, while MaX offerings can work with phones serviced by different operators.

Three versions of MaX

Mobile network operators can deploy MaX mobile unified communications in three versions:

MaX Business allows micro and small businesses to take advantage of MaX’s shared voice and messaging capabilities to connect better with customers. This enables a group of employees with disparate mobile devices to interface with their customers through a common business number and to instantly collaborate internally via business information feeds and channels, thereby maximizing business efficiency, customer satisfaction and lead conversion.

MaX Prosumer allows individuals currently juggling multiple phones or SIM cards to be well served by mobile operators that can now deliver a sophisticated multi-persona solution across one or more personal devices.

MaX Family allows mobile-equipped families to create a familiar “fixed line” experience across any number of discrete mobile devices, complete with private message and collaboration feeds and the ability to create disposable numbers and temporary identities.

A recent survey of more than 400 UK and US prosumers and small businesses (conducted by Research Fidelity on behalf of Metaswitch) confirmed that more than half of business users that use their mobile as a primary device are looking for solutions like MaX. Nearly two thirds of these users would prefer to buy such a service from their mobile operator. And more than seven in ten of those expressing that preference indicated a willingness to buy such services over freemium, OTT offerings.

Strong customer feedback

Hutchison Three, third largest mobile operator in Austria, is one operator currently in trial.

“It’s exciting to see true innovation in mobile services that are designed specifically to benefit mobile network operators and our customers,” said Rico Chemnitz, Senior Head of Infrastructure Services & NW Virtualization at Hutchison Three Austria. “Our trial is confirming that MaX is delivering some uniquely compelling capabilities that fundamentally expand an operator’s value proposition.”
