If you’re the type who’d rather show off your smartphone without a case and risk drops and scratches, you’ll want to check out LG’s upcoming G Flex Android phone, which has a “self-healing” coating that repairs minor scratches almost instantly.

Prolific mobile reviewer and video blogger MKBHD (Marques Brownlee) tests out a review unit with car keys and a knife. And although his tests were carried out in less than ideal temperatures– 55 degrees compared to the optimal 81 degrees for the G Flex to fully self-heal, the results (video below) are still amazing.

Luckily for those of us who don’t live in year-round warm climates, Brownlee finds that rubbing one’s hands or body on the phone warms it up enough to improve the scratch-recovery process.

But the G Flex is no one-trick pony– it’s also the first phone to feature a flexible curved display. If your G Flex somehow gets flattened–maybe you accidentally sat on it–it will flex back into its original curved shape. Brownlee tests this by pushing down the phone, but we can’t help but wonder how it would do if run over by a car.
