If you’ve ever thought Angry Birds are out of this world — well, now they really are.  Angry Birds Star Wars is the latest battle of the birds and pigs from Rovio Entertainment.

The company created the new game in partnership with Star Wars franchise owner Lucasfilm, which is being bought by Disney. There are separate versions available for iOS, Android, Mac, PC, Windows Phone, and Windows 8.

As Rovio puts it, Angry Birds Star Wars follows “a plucky group of Rebel birds in their fight against the evil Imperial Pigs. Fans will use the Force, wield a Lightsaber, and blast away Pigtroopers on an intergalactic journey from the deserts of Tatooine to the depths of the Pig Star — where they’ll face off against the terrifying Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Pigs.”

The game offers up more than 80 play levels in iconic locations, and features new game play mechanics, the ability to level up birds, free updates, and “lots of secrets and hidden goodies,” teases Rovio. Fans can also train in the “Path of the Jedi” in-app purchase to hone their light saber skills and become a Jedi Master.

It’s no surprise that Rovio and Lucasfilm have also introduced tie-in merchandise — including Hasbro toys, plush toys, and clothing — all available now from select retailers, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Angry Birds Star Wars launches today on iOS ($0.99 / iPhone, $2.99 / iPad), Android (Free SD version, HD is $2.99), Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac ($4.99), PC, Windows Phone, and Windows 8.

Rovio and Lucasfilm have also put together a new cinematic trailer, which retells the classic Star Wars cantina scene with Angry Birds Star Wars characters in the starring roles. Check it out below, along with a game trailer:
